Staying In Touch While Backpacking In Europe

So you’re planning a trip backpacking in Europe and you’re not sure how to stay in touch with your friends and family. Should you bring a cell phone, or relyon payphones, hostel phones, and the internet? Well, you can bring a cellphone, but using it in a foreign country doesn’t always work so well and many timesthe rates are quite expensive.

One option is to bring a pre paid calling card. Not only will it allow you to keep in contact with your loved ones, but you can use it when you’re buyingtrain tickets and booking hostels.

Another option to consider would be renting a cell phone and using it sparingly. This way you don’t have to worry about losing or breaking your personal cell phone.It is always good to have a cell phone in case of emergency.

The internet is one of the best ways to keep in touch while backpacking through Europe. With email you can even send trip reports and photos back for your familyto see before you get home. Europe has many internet cafes, so you won’t have trouble finding a place with computer access. Plus using the internet you can talkface to face with your family thanks to programs like Skype.

No matter how you choose to stay in touch, it is important to be prepared before departing for your trip.
