The Potential Gastric Bypass Surgery Complications

Gastric bypass surgery usually involves the Roux-en-Y procedure, which is a surgery that creates a small gastric pouch and attaches a portion of the jejunum to the pouch, resulting in a small effective stomach and a small degree of malabsorption due to a lack of absorption through the duodenum and part of the jejunum. If you have a mini gastric bypass, the results are basically the same.  Gastric bypass procedure is sometimes predated by a gastric sleeve surgery for the morbidly obese. It creates a tube-like structure for the food to pass through and you can easily lose many pounds of weight without having the gastric bypass procedure completely done. The gastric bypass surgery cost is about $20,000 to $25,000 and is covered for by insurance if you have health problems directly related to obesity.  This can include diabetes mellitus, a common complication of obesity.  It is best to thoroughly research as well as talk the procedure over with your doctor to determine the level of potential risk versus a successful and beneficial outcome.
